Your portfolio explains who you are as a journalist and what skills you’d bring to the job. 

Don’t be scared of the word “portfolio.” It’s just a fancy term for work samples. We’ll review some best practices and walk through a few examples. 

These are just frameworks for inspiration. Your experience is unique. 

Just like journalism-specific resumes, portfolios can be subjective. This is a compilation of what I’ve heard from recruiters and colleagues as well as what I’ve found that worked for me, both as a hiring manager for many years and as I progressed in my career.
